What is a Trustee?

A public school board trustee is a locally elected representative who plays a key role in shaping public education. Trustees serve as a voice for students, parents, and the broader community, helping ensure that every decision made at the board level supports student learning, equity, and the wellbeing of our schools.

Why Trustees Matter

Trustees are critical to the success of our education system. They act as a bridge between the community and the school board—bringing forward concerns, advocating for needed resources, and contributing to decisions that directly impact students outcomes. Trustees also play an important oversight role, helping to guide budget decisions, school closures, curriculum implementation, and more.
